I recommend this link to anyone who has a family history of depression and/or heart disease, as it draws attention to the role depression plays in the development of subclinical atherosclerosis [hardening of the arteries]. Apparently, symptoms of depression manifest before signs of atherosclerosis, leading researchers to recommend that doctors pay closer attention to depression and other psychological factors that can affect patient health. I found the implications of this study to be especially noteworthy, as I have a family history of both heart disease and depression; thus, my reason for recommending it to others with a similar history.
